Week 3 Visit to the Midwest

After traveling by sea then air and finally by land I finally made it to my Midwest destination of Southern Minnesota from the wilds of Southeast Alaska.  Turns out I traded one cold place for another.  The ferry ride over to Juneau was a beautiful one filled with sunny skies, a spectacular sunset, as a few large rolling waves but no big seas thankfully.  The next morning flying out of Juneau the plane was chasing the sunrise what an amazing sight that was.  Fortunately I was sitting in a window seat for the show.  Arriving in the Seattle airport midday felt like being in times square on New Year's Eve at midnight for a person who has lives in a small bush community of about 350 people.   Now that I am down in the lower 48 states I have to reacquaint myself with crowded spaces and fast cars.  I am so used to living in an area where the fastest speed limit is 45, so 70 on a interstate with semi trucks can be a little nerve racking at first.  I have been taking pictures all along the way.  Next week when I return home to my sleepy little village I will sort through my pictures and post some for you viewing pleasure.

Week 2

Well I have managed to take at least one picture everyday this year despite all the rain and snow.  Saturday was the first day it did not snow or rain or both since the day after Christmas.  So we are more than happy to put up with the cold if it means an extended period of sun.  The last three mornings have provided some beautiful sunrises.  To make up for the lack of posting last week I will attach some of the best photos from the last two weeks.  Next weeks post will not contain photos either since I will be traveling, but when I get back I will be sure to post plenty of photos.  Enjoy!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to my new blog.  I live in a small bush community in Southeast Alaska.  Before the ferry started stopping here last winter the only way to get here was by a small bush plane.  Like many communities in Alaska there are no roads in or out.  Life moves a little slower around here and there is beauty everywhere, even when overcast or raining sideways there is always beautiful things to find and see in this ever green temperate rainforest.

This winter I am starting a small photography business called Alpine Prairie Photography.  I have been working on setting it up for a couple of months now.  I am starting off just selling online, but hope to eventually be selling to stores and galleries here in Southeast Alaska.  I have a flickr site to showcase my work (www.flickr.com/photos/alpineprairie) and a shop on etsy to sell my work (www.esty.com/shop/AlpinePrairiePhoto).  Please check out those two sites.  If you see something on flickr you like that is not on etsy send me an email and I can create a custom order for you.

I decided 2012 would be the Year of Pictures.  Since I have started a photography business I decided my project for the year would be to take at the very least one photo everyday to help improve my photography skills and in the process continually provide new photos for my portfolio.  I created this blog so I could share my progress in this project.  So I hope you following on my quest to take at least one picture everyday and every week I will post the best photos of the week here on my blog.
